‘As with his whole life he has put others ahead of himself and leaves us an absolute hero and star.’

Homicide detectives are investigating his death.

The 19-year-old had played his first senior game alongside his sibling Lucas before heading to the local pub after the game when the brawl erupted.

The teenager reportedly walked back to a nearby home with friends but was later taken to hospital when he began to feel ill.

‘We didn’t see any injuries, we had no idea anything was wrong until later in the night when it became obvious something was serious and we called an ambulance,’ the friend said.

Victoria Police originally issued a statement on Monday morning saying Patrick had died on Sunday night but subsequently retracted it after speaking to the family.

Hundreds of people commented on family members’ Facebook pages expressing devastation and sorrow.

‘Words just can’t express how sad we are all feeling – such a beautiful, gentle boy. You are all in our thoughts and prayers,’ one said.

‘He’s just an angel of a kid … He’s smart, kind, an amazing boy,’ Lower Plenty Football Club president Grant Bardem said.

The 19-year-old’s team raised their flag at half-mast in honour of the talented player while many took to social media offering their messages of support.

‘Life can sometimes be so unfair. Patrick Cronin you were a ripping kid who still had a whole life to live ahead of you. Reading your’s and Lucas Cronin’s name out Thursday night to play your first senior game together was a privilege and I know how proud it made your family,’ one friend posted.

‘Waking up this morning to the worst possible news! A young kid with a heart of gold taken away far too soon,’ another said.

Premier Daniel Andrews said Victorians were supporting the Cronins with their thoughts and prayers.

‘I’m confident that Victoria Police will do everything they need to do to bring the perpetrator of this cowardly act to the justice that that person so richly deserves,’ Mr Andrews said.

Girl accidentally gets Jeremy Lin's Chinese name tattooed to her ankle, decides to own it

jeremy_lin_tat.jpg

As we’ve said before, getting a Chinese tattoo needs to be something that you do only after undertaking painstaking research; however, if something does get lost in translation, then don’t despair, OWN IT.

That’s what one Tennessee girl did after mistakenly getting NBA star Jeremy Lin’s name in Chinese permanently etched into her ankle. Holland Christensen is not a Lin super-fan, instead she just got screwed over by some asshole on the internet, and didn’t bother to double-check, for whatever reason. Here’s how she summed it on her Reddit post:

It was a huge fail, I had no idea who he even was, and who the F gets a random tattoo of someone’s name? Basically someone thought it would be hilarious to give me the wrong Chinese translation of what I actually wanted for the tattoo, and me being impulsive and not double checking I now have Jeremy Lin’s name on my body for the rest of my life.

Here’s the tattoo:

However, instead of falling into despair and desperately severing her ankle, she decided to embrace the unless you are a NBA ref).

She decided that since she’s already got the dude’s name tattooed to her ankle, she should also go see him play some ball. After her friend dropped out on her, she posted to Reddit, searching for someone who wanted to go to the game with her. From there, her insane story went viral.

Watch her full confessional video below for all the details:

Christensen did go to the game, and while she wasn’t able to meet Lin afterward, he did hear about her later, tweeting her the perfect response and posting to Reddit:

On Reddit, Lin responded to Christensen: “…in all seriousness, thank you for your support and for sharing your story. Glad you were able to turn a mistake into something positive! Feel free to keep me posted if you come to a playoff game.”

The Hornets made the playoffs this year (woohoo!) and will play the Miami Heat in the first round, Christensen says she plans on attending a game.

While this is all incredible, Christensen could have saved herself a bit of trouble by using Waygo, or any number of other apps, that can take pictures of Chinese and Japanese characters offline and provide instant translation.

A quick Google search will reveal thousands of mangled Chinese tattoos exposed for what they really are: absolute gibberish. In 2013, a story surfaced of a tattoo artist in Sao Paulo, Brazil arrested for tattooing a client with characters translating to “Chicken Noodle Soup” instead of a sentimental quote from Antoine de Saint-Exupery’s The Little Prince.

Another prominent example is an American woman who wanted a tattoo of the Chinese word for “freedom.” What she ended up with was the words for “free of charge.” There are countless other similar stories of tattoo disasters, and even some celebrities have fallen victim to the trap: Justin Timberlake was given a fake Chinese tattoo for his role in “Alpha Dog,” to make him appear like an authentic “bad boy.” The tattoo he was given was 溜冰 (liūbīng), which means “skating” or “ice-skating”… probably not what he was looking for. Likewise, Britney Spears has the character 奇 (q ī) stamped on her hip. She was under the assumption that the direct translation was “mysterious”; but actually, it was “weird” or “odd.”

Japanese spas urged to accept tattooed foreigners

The Japan Tourism Agency (JTA), in a first-of-its-kind move, has urged spa owners to allow tattoo-sporting non-Japanese tourists into their facilities, saying they should consider the cultural and religious backgrounds of foreign visitors, the Japan Times reported.

Shogo Akamichi, a JTA official, said the request is not binding and that the decision is ultimately up to the spa operators.

In a country where tattoos are often associated with gangs, many bathhouses in Japan reject tattooed customers, fearing they scare away other patrons.

But Akamichi said the no-tattoo policy by many spa operators is discriminatory since many people, including foreign visitors, wear tattoos for religious, cultural and other reasons.

With Japan experiencing an increase in the number of foreign tourists, the agency hopes more overseas visitors can enjoy the country’s onsen, suggesting that spa establishments should implement measures such as giving tattoo-wearing foreign customers certain time frame to bathe or providing them with stickers to cover their tattoos.

The ban on tattoos at bathhouses has been raising concern in Japan, where a large presence of yakuza operates, and differing views on body arts have become a source of tension between foreign tourists and spa operators.

In 2013, a tattooed language lecturer from New Zealand was barred from a public bath in the northern island of Hokkaido. Erana Te Haeata Brewerton, a Maori woman attending an academic meeting on indigenous languages, was refused entry to the bathhouse because of her traditional facial tattoos.

Despite protest from Brewerton’s group, an official from the bath said the decision was being made to avoid making other customers uncomfortable.

The incident happened just hours following the announcement that Tokyo had been awarded the rights to host the 2020 Olympics.

Bathing facilities and inns around hot springs are very popular across Japan and have become a central feature in the promotion of the country’s tourism industry.

Man Gets Drake's Mixtape Cover Art Tattooed on His Neck [PHOTO]

There’s no question that Drake’s mixtape, If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late, is one of the hottest releases of the past week. Apparently, one fan loved the project so much that he decided to get a tattoo of the typographic cover art on his neck. Yep, you read that correctly.

Tattoo artist Mike Bage, of Fat Panda Tattoo Studio in the U.K., drew the artwork on his friend Richy Huck. He then posted the photo on his Instagram account and now the pic has gone viral on the internet.

Bage sent an email to Huffington Post to explain why Huck wanted to have Drake’s mixtape art on his neck. He writes:

Richy is a big fan of Drake, and since the popularity of his Miley Cyrus tattoo he thought this one would be a cool idea and would get people talking. He’s got some strange tattoos already anyway: a lady riding a sausagedog, a loveheart with the word “tits” in, Miley Cyrus in the bath, a dog with boobs for eyes, etc., so this one didn’t seem that weird. He said his parents have taken it well — his dad ‘just shook his head and got over it.’”

While Huck’s tattoo will raise eyebrows, it pales in comparison to what a young lady did back in 2011. An unidentified woman went into a Los Angeles tattoo shop to get the words “DRAKE” etched into her forehead. When the shop owner posted the photo on his Tumblr page, it instantly went viral and generated thousands of critical reactions.

Tattooist Kevin Campbell, who drilled the artwork on the girl’s forehead, was unapologetic about carving the Toronto rapper’s name on her forehead. “The funny thing is, I didn’t know who Drake was,” he tells Vice Magazine in an interview. “I figured it was her hood or some s—, not some goofnugget R&B dude.”

As for Huck, his ‘IYRTITL’ tattoo shouldn’t prevent him from getting a job (if he wears a turtleneck), but he might received some slander by folks on Twitter.

So far, Drake has yet to comment on Huck’s new artwork. I’m quite sure his social media accounts are on fleek right now.

What do you think about Richy Huck’s Drake tattoo? Is it dumb or creative? Tell us in the comments below.
