Cops hope faded tattoo will help ID woman found dead in Brooklyn

The unidentifed woman was found among trees near Coney Island Creek by Gravesend’s Calvert Vaux Park on March 22, according to police sources.

A faded tattoo of a heart and a rose may help police identify a woman found dead in Brooklyn, officials said Thursday.

Cops have released a rendering of the tattoo, which was found on the unidentified woman’s right leg.

The remains — which may have been in pieces and burned according to police sources — were found in a thatch of trees near Coney Island Creek by Gravesend’s Calvert Vaux Park at around 6:30 p.m. on March 22, police sources said.

It was not immediately clear how long the remains were in the wooded area before they were discovered.

The black tattoo has a heart atop a rose. Inside the heart is the name “Monique,” officials said.

The dead woman is believed to be between 25 and 45.

Anyone with information about her identity is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.

Identity of dead man with distinctive tattoos remains a mystery

Published: 12:50PM Tuesday January 27, 2015 Source: ONE News

The identity of a man found dead in Napier a week ago remains unknown, with police saying they’re no closer to finding out who he is.

The man, who is believed to be in his 50s or 60’s, was found dead in the central city last Monday morning. His death isn’t considered to be suspicious.

He is described as being either Maori or Polynesian, of solid build and about 1.78 metres tall with grey receding hair and a grey goatee.

He also has two distinctive tattoos – a snake wrapped around a skull and sword on one arm, and a line of narrow squares on one hand.

Detective Sergeant John McCarthy says they have received a few calls about the man but nothing to confirm who he is or where he is from.

“It’s a complete mystery and we are hoping to get some closure for this man’s family, who will no doubt be distressed to hear of his death,” says Mr McCarthy.

The mystery man had no identification on him or any other items when he was found and was wearing a dark blue jacket, jeans and brown suede walking shoes.

Police say they have exhausted all their usual methods of identifying someone and are now having to turn to DNA testing and dental records, which could take some time.

Anyone with information about the man is asked to contact Mr McCarthy on 06 2113810.
