Apple confirms that tattoo ink can indeed affect readings from the Watch

The support documentation for the Apple Watch has been updated, confirming complaints that wearers of the watch might have problems if they have wrist tattoos. As reported yesterday, users have taken up the hashtag #tattoogate to complain that the auto-unlock feature doesn’t work and the ink also affects the watch’s ability to reliably track a user’s heart rate.  

According to the support document, “Permanent or temporary changes to your skin, such as some tattoos, can also impact heart rate sensor performance. The ink, pattern, and saturation of some tattoos can block light from the sensor, making it difficult to get reliable readings.

The updated support doc says, “If you’re not able to get a consistent reading because of any of these factors, you can connect your Apple Watch wirelessly to external heart rate monitors such as Bluetooth chest straps.” 

We’re pretty sure that someone who pays that much money for a smartwatch wants all its features to work properly, without having to attach any other equipment.

SC Law Would Ban Pet Tattoos, Piercings

NO … SERIOUSLY …

|| By FITSNEWS || S.C. Rep. Todd Atwater – a Lexington County, S.C. “Republican” – is the primary sponsor of a bill that would make it illegal to give one’s pet a tattoo.  Or a piercing.

Much to the presumed chagrin of Mr. Bigglesworth (above) – and for that matter “mini” Mr. Bigglesworth – Atwater’s legislation would expressly prohibit “the piercing or tattooing of a companion animal except for when conducted by veterinarians for purposes of providing a means of identification or supplying a medical benefit.”

Wait … what’s a companion animal?

“Any animal that is kept inside a residential dwelling and any dog or cat regardless of where it is kept,” according to the proposed statute.

Individuals found to be in violation of the new law – which doesn’t apply to livestock, fowl or wild animals – would be guilty of a misdemeanor and could face thirty days in jail (and a $1,000 fine).

Crazy, huh?

Oh and not only is the bill – H. 3917 – for real, it’s one of the few pieces of legislation which appears on track to pass the S.C. General Assembly this year.  The S.C. House passed the legislation by an 89-1 vote earlier this week and sent it to the State Senate – where it has been referred to a subcommittee.

Isn’t it nice to know our leaders are focused on the serious business of governing?

Armor-piercing bullets, coke, $30G cash seized, two arrested by Ridgefield Park police

YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: Ridgefield Park police seized several rounds of armor-piercing bullets, more than a dozen ounces of cocaine and $30,000 cash while arresting two men after a Route 46 traffic stop.

Officer Brad Gilmore stopped a 2007 Saturn on eastbound Route 46 at 1:45 a.m. yesterday after the driver changed lanes several times without signaling and tailgated other motorists, Capt. Daniel Hippe told CLIFFVIEW PILOT this morning.

As he approached the vehicle, Gilmore “spotted several air fresheners on the floor, as well as others sticking out of the seams of the floor edges,” Hippe said.

The spare tire compartment cover also was ajar, he said.

Gilmore then detected “an overwhelming odor of air freshener, which is often used as a masking agent to hide the smell of narcotics,” the captain told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

After obtaining consent to search, he said, the officer discovered a secret compartment. A search warrant was then obtained and the arrests made.

Sandro Jerez Burgos, 41, of the Bronx was being held on $500,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail, and 26-year-old Carlos Noyer Nunez on $350,000 bail.

Both are charged with possession of body armor-penetrating bullets, distributing drugs, possessing drugs and possessing proceeds from criminal activity.

A second passenger was released without charges.
