I think you should take a trip down to your nearest Apple store and find out for yourself how big of an issue this actually is.

9. darkkjedii (Posts: 14635; Member since: 05 Feb 2011)I’m considering the Gear S, if the AW doesn’t work for me. have you tried it? Obviously as an iOS first user, the AW is my first choice, but I love the way the Gear S looks too, and it’s a stand alone.
3. Saioofi (Posts: 117; Member since: 23 May 2014)So people are going to buy the watch only to measure their heart rates? lol
5. SamDH1 (Posts: 61; Member since: 21 Apr 2015)No it needs to detect the heart rate of the user so it can work for some features for some reason
6. Scott93274 (Posts: 2028; Member since: 06 Aug 2013)That was my understanding of the impact of the issue, though I can see this getting fixed with a software update, unfortunately that could also impact other functionality including but not limited to battery life.
10. lyndon420 (Posts: 2640; Member since: 11 Jul 2012)It would be encouraging if they could fix it with a software upgrade if the Android Wear watches are indeed capable of seeing past this some how. Although if it is a hardware limitation issue this may be a problem.
11. Scott93274 (Posts: 2028; Member since: 06 Aug 2013)It’s beyond me how Android Wear devices measure heart rate as I’ve never looked into the issue, I’m assuming it’s an alternative method/sensor as I have not heard of this issue before the release of the Apple Watch. I think that Apple will just have to make this feature a user option that can be turned on or off, otherwise they risk alienating loyal members of their market.
Darkjedi for example was incredibly hyped for the release of the new iPhone and Apple watch as he has expressed this many times in the comments section of this site, but now the new watch may not even work for him. Frankly if it were me, I would be very upset to have something like this happen. This isn’t intended to be a “shame on Apple” comment, it’s just expressing the frustration of the circumstances.
