The son of the late, legendary Gary tattoo artist Roy Boy Cooper was killed in a car accident in July, sparking an outpouring of support — and bogus reports of a tiger on the loose in the region.
Diamond Cody Cooper, 19, of Lake Station, was killed when a Hobart woman pulled her vehicle in front of Cooper’s motorcycle, causing him to crash into her Jeep Patriot, officials said. She was not criminally charged in the crash.
One year earlier, the teen reopened Roy Boy’s The Badlands tattoo parlor at 3844 Broadway, Gary.
The parlor was once well known for the tigers his father kept at the shop. The USDA removed four tigers in May 2010. Roy Boy Cooper died three months later.
Days after the younger Cooper was killed in July, Gary police received multiple reports of a tiger on the loose in the city near the site of the former tattoo parlor. No tiger was ever located, and police believed news of the younger Cooper’s death sparked the bogus calls.
