GRANTS PASS, Ore. (KOIN 6) – Authorities say a man’s distinctive shamrock tattoo allowed them to identify him as the suspect in a child pornography case.

Jeremiah David Daniels, 31, is being held in the Josephine County Jail. His bail is set at $1 million. He made his first court appearance on Wednesday. He is charged with first-degree sexual abuse, first-degree rape and using a child in a display of sexually explicit conduct. The alleged incidents occurred in March 2015, according to records.

The investigation started after a civilian found an SD card which appeared to have images of child pornography on it, according to court records. The Grants Pass Department of Public Safety opened an investigation and confirmed the images were that of child pornography, according to court documents.

The images were very sexually explicit, according to records and showed the male having sexual intercourse with an “infant/toddler.” Officers were able to see a shamrock tattoo on some of the images. The Oregon Department of Justice assisted with the investigation and obtained a search warrant.

Daniels was identified as the man in the photographs, records show. Authorities say he has a matching shamrock tattoo on his hand.

Daniels was arrested and interviewed by investigators. He admitted to the incidents, according to court records.

The Josephine County District Attorney’s Office says that the girl is not related to Daniels, but declined to comment further, citing the on-going investigation.

The case will be reviewed by a grand jury and Daniels is scheduled to be back in court Aug. 19.
